The commune of the capital reported that in the face of the situation of insecurity in zone 18, where passenger transport pilots have been victims of threats and extortion, Several routes suspended their operations on Monday, March 10 as a measure to request protection and concrete actions by public order entities.
He added that thousands of users depend daily on transport to reach their work, studies and activities, so Mayor Ricardo Quiñónez ordered the implementation of urgent measures that allow guaranteeing safe alternatives of mobility.
The instruction is to enable more units in Transmetro Line 18, from the Atlantis Central Station, to facilitate the transfer to zone 1 of the capital.
Also reinforcement in Tubus 104, strengthening the connection from the blade, zone 6, to zone 10.
The commune indicated that there is coordinated support with the Municipal Police, Emetra and Inspectoría STP to protect the units and try to guarantee the safety of users.
“The Municipality of Guatemala reiterates its application for immediate intervention from the competent authorities to address this serious insecurity situation, which affects both carriers and thousands of Guatemalans who depend on the public service every day,” added the commune.

The Human Rights Attorney’s Office reported that five routes are the ones that paralyzed work.
