On Tuesday, August 5, prior to Party between Antigua GFC and Alianza FC, for the second date of the Central American Cup of 2025, The event was tarnished by the actions of some followers of the El Salvador team that damaged cultural heritage in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez.
Some fans of the Salvadoran team made pints on different walls of residences and streets of the colonial city.
These actions, attributed to a minority identified as radical followers, have caused rejection by neighbors and municipal authorities.
In that sense, the Municipality of Antigua Guatemala published on Wednesday, August 6 on social networks: “We followed up the complaints entered and carried out the cleaning and repainting of the Pimental sidewalk, as well as of the walls that were damaged.”
He added: “From the Municipality of Antigua Guatemala we reiterate our commitment to the care of public space and order in our city. We reject any act that threatens the heritage.”
“We remember our neighbors and visitors that Antigua Guatemala is Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and deserves to be respected and cared for,” said the commune.
In addition, he regretted that acts of vandalism like this occur during a sports party and reiterated that this city is not only heritage of Guatemalans, but of the entire world.
He affirmed that a team in the commune works to recover the affected spaces and carry out cleaning and painting work, with the objective that the city continues to be an attractive destination.
