The Spanish coach Javier López shook the middle of Guatemalan football with the announcement that will be in the country after some months of inactivity.
López arrived in Guatemala in 2024 to take the reins of the former GFC project, a team to which led to the semifinals of the Central American Cup of Concacaf in a historic campaign in which he left the road to the Saprissa of Costa Rica.
However, his relationship with the leadership of the Panza Verde Club deteriorated and was soon ceased his position as coach.
Old GFC then replaced López with Mauricio Tapiawhich was responsible for directing the Colonial Club in the Concacaf Champions Cup and keeps it in the third position of Clausura 2025.
Lopez remained away from the benches from his departure from Antigua and returned to Spain, where he had remained so far, but recently announced that he will return to the country on his Instagram account.
“12 hours of flight to return to what we like the most,” was the short, but revealing message left by the coach.
For now, the reason behind López’s arrival in the country is unknown, but his enigmatic message makes it clear that he will resume a job in some team of the country’s football leagues.
Currently all the teams of the National League have the position of occupied coach, but it would not be ruled out that it even comes to take the reins of some Guatemala selection process, since the president of the Fedefut, Gerardo Paiz, He came to say that the vacancy that left Rigoberto Gómez in the Sub 17 would be taken by a foreign technician.
