Simeone declared that he feels “proud and happy” of his players, despite having been eliminated by Real Madrid in the penalty shootout. In addition, he asked the journalists to raise their hands if anyone had seen that Álvarez touched the ball twice in the penalty that was invalidated.
“Did you see the penalty?” The coach asked a journalist who consulted him about the play. “Leave your hand who has seen Julian kicks the ball twice,” Simeone said at the press conference after the game. “No one lifes her,” he said when he did that nobody did.
On the mentality with which they faced the penalty shootout and how elimination can affect the next meetings, the Argentine coach said that in the current workforce “there are many players who were not in the previous ones.”
“The players who were today were not in the previous batches. Do not value that. We made a very good game, we compete in an incredible way. We were able to score the second goal in the game, we arrived at the penalties … apparently the referee says that Julián kicked the ball twice, but the ball seems not to move. ”
“I am proud of my players because we compete exemplary in both games. I am happy because there are two ways to go to sleep: one is when you do not give the size and do not compete, and another is when you give everything, play and compete admirable. We have competed admirable and it is to be happy. It is true that in the Champions League we have not been able to eliminate Real Madrid, it is a reality, but surely they will always remember that we have been a very complicated rival, which has always cost them a lot to win. I’m getting lost, but happy and peacefully, ”Simeone explained.
On the impact that the elimination can have in the next game against Barcelona, he said: “It is clear that when one is left it is not easy to digest it. We have a great rival next Sunday, who surely wanted us to arrive in extension and penalty today. We will arrive tired and beaten, but we have competed in this tie as it must be competed. ”
