The control and liquidation tasks of a forest fire in the Chuchún hamlet, in Sacapulas, Quiché, continue by air and earth with the aim of preventing the flames from causing more damage to homes and forest areas, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED) on Friday, the national coordinator, the national coordinator for disasters.
“The Operational Equipment of the Conred combat the two foci of this fire. By land and air, suppression work is carried out, ”said Juan Laureano, spokesman for Conred.
He added that the Sacapular authorities coordinated the arrival of a helicopter that this Friday made 30 discharges of 150 gallons of water each.
“By land, Red Cross, Army elements, among other brigades that make up the system, have intensified tasks,” said Laureano.
He added: “This forest fire caused severe damage to three homes and the evacuation of 24 people who make up four families, who were self -treated in housing of relatives and neighbors. Four homes continue at risk. ”
In addition, the Conred reported that, during the 2025 forest fire season, 325 accidents have been registered, of which five remain active: two in Quiché, one in Chimaltenango, one in Guatemala and one in Huehuetenango.
“One of the two fires in Quiché is located in the Chuchún hamlet, Sacapulas. This fire affected three homes that were severe damage, ”said the spokesman.
