The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) reported on Monday, March 17 that, according to the data generated in the last hours at the air quality monitoring station in the capital, A maximum air quality index value was reported within the “very bad” category.
He added that, therefore, air quality can be harmful to health. He explained that, according to updates, the air quality is currently within the “moderate” category, indicating an acceptable air quality.
He added that the Central Insivumeh Air Quality Station, following the fire in the landfill of the Authority for Sustainable Management of the Basin and Lake Amatitlán (AMSA), at kilometer 22 of the route to the Pacific, reported high values of pollution (particulate material).
However, from 10 pm on Sunday there was a decrease in the concentration of particulate material, reaching moderate quality values, considered good quality.
Currently, winds come from the north at a speed of 37 km/h. In the following hours, the north winds could be intensified up to 40 km/h, gradually decreasing on March 18 at an estimated speed between 12 and 18 km/h.
These changes in the direction and wind speed could influence the dispersion and concentration of the particulate material in the atmosphere, affecting air quality in the next few hours.
