The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (Maga) released 46.1 million sterile hominivorax cochliomyia flies to prevent the boreride worm of the cattle, official sources reported Monday 24.
The liberation of sterile flies was made through the Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations and the Directorate of Animal Health, and took place between February 9 and 14.
During the release operation, twelve flights were made to disperse the flies, approximately 60 % on Guatemala.
The Maga explained that in total in the seven weeks of this year 282.1 million sterile flies have been dispersed.
The production of the flies is done jointly with the Panama -United States Commission for the eradication and prevention of the Barrenader of Cattle (COPEG) in border areas.
According to the weekly reports of the livestock of livestock, 160 accumulated cases are recorded, among these 20 assets, which are still paying veterinary attention and timely monitoring.
In addition, 138 recovered cases are reported and, so far, only two dead animals are recorded.
