Voters expressed their repudiation for mass dismissals, the dismantling of the Department of Education and the possible cuts to the Medical Care Program promoted by the US President Donald Trump, during a public assembly in Tucson, Arizona.

These meetings with the community, convened by congressmen of both parties throughout the country – on this occasion, by Democratic Senator Mark Kelly – show the outrage of several sectors against Trump and Elon Musk, their person in charge of reducing the government apparatus.

Michael Brown, a Republican who works in the United States Postal Services Department (USPS), told EFE during the community meeting that he voted for Trump, but never imagined the magnitude of the chaos that he would cause in his first days of government.

“He promised to improve the economy, that prices would lower, and none of that is happening. On the contrary, I fear that things will be much worse,” said the federal employee.

Brown fears being part of the long list of federal jobs cuts, because USPS is also in Musk’s sights.

“Yes, I regret voting for Trump,” he emphasized.

The game with health

“It is alarming what is happening. President Trump must understand that he is playing with the lives of many people, especially those who are disabled like me,” he told Efe Rita Pérez.

In tears, some attendees related to Senator Kelly how their lives would be hard affected if the Trump government makes mass cuts to the Medicalid Medical Care program, aimed at people with limited resources.

Kelly accused Trump and the Republican Party to show intentions of cutting Medicaid to grant tax exemptions to the rich and large corporations.

“The Energy and Commerce Committee must make cuts of 880,000 million dollars, and we are sure they are in the sight of Medicaid,” Kelly told those present, who boo each time the senator appointed Trump Oa Musk.

Attendees said that the impact of cuts would be devastating, especially for low -income people and families that depend on this program to receive medical care.

Mothers with children with special needs told their stories and how they will be affected in case their children stop receiving therapies and social assistance.

Some of these programs are under Medicaid, and others depend on the Department of Education, which is being dismantled by the Trump administration starting this week.

The anger’s anger is not only against Trump, Musk and the Republicans, but also against the Democrats, because “they do not do enough” to stop the actions of the president.

“We are doing our job. We are fighting very hard in it,” Kelly replied when questioned by EFE about this complaint.

The senator assured those present that the force is in the union, and told them that the best thing they can do is contact their representatives and express their opposition to these cuts.

The repentant cries

Kelly strongly criticized other republican congressmen and senators who have not wanted or canceled public assemblies, in fear of facing the disgust of voters.

“Trump doesn’t care about people; they care only the millionaires,” war veteran Henry Trejo told Efe.

He indicated that the only thing that is currently “gladly” is that Hispanic voters who helped choose Trump are now “crying” because they have been unemployed or could lose their benefits.

“They cry saying that they voted for Trump, but not for this,” he said.

In their opinion, Democrats must also be “harder” and hold more public assemblies, so that people know that changes can still make.
