Publications on digital platforms show armed clashes between residents of both municipalities, which puts those who travel through the area at risk, where high -power detonations are heard.
Given this situation, local authorities urged to remain calm, because they warn that the conflict could get out of control.
The Departmental Government of San Marcos reported, through its social networks, that the governor convened “urgently” to a meeting with the community authorities and mayors of Ixchiguán and Tajumulco, due to the provocations between inhabitants of both municipalities.
“The objective of the meeting was to emphasize that a technical table of peaceful dialogue and coexistence has been established to resolve the territorial limits conflict of both municipalities,” details the message of the Departmental Government.
Some settlers indicated that they have reacted due to the breach of certain established agreements to advance territorial delimitation.
Representatives of the Government, the Public Ministry, the Mountain Operations Brigade and the National Civil Police, who formulated recommendations and asked community leaders participating in the meeting.
Guatemala’s army was consulted about the incidents in those places, but no response has been received.
