The National Civil Police (PNC) and the Public Ministry (MP) reported this March 26 about the capture of the two assumptions responsible for the Death of the Captain of the Army Ingrid Amanda Morente, which occurred on January 21, 2025.
According to the researchers, the arrest of the subject who would have triggered against Morente Catalán was carried out in the 18th Avenue and 40 Calle de la Zona 8 capital.
Both institutions indicated that the proceedings, carried out in the municipalities of Guatemala, Mixco, Villa Nueva, Amatitlán and Palencia, were directed against a criminal structure dedicated to the robbery and murder of people.
The MP acknowledged that the band called “Moto Thieves” is attributed several crimes, including the death of Ingrid Amanda Morente.
“The incident occurred on January 21, 2025, at approximately 4 pm, when members of the criminal structure killed Morante Catalán, second captain of Transmissions of the Guatemala army, on the Roosevelt road,” said the investigating entity.
Armed attack
The researchers indicated that, after analyzing traffic and shops, they identified a band of thieves operating in motorcycles.
Two days after the attack, the PNC reported that they continued to investigate the fact on the Roosevelt road, in which the captain of the army and member of the escort of Vice President Karin Herrera died.
The investigations pointed out that the death of the military could be classified as a “collateral damage”, derived from the attackers were perpetrating an assault on a vehicle on the Roosevelt road and the possibility of being a direct attack against it was reduced.
The PNC explained that, before armed men tried against Catalan, they would have tried to assault the occupants of another vehicle.
After the attempt to assault, the suspects tried to escape and, unable to evade the small vehicle in which Catalan Morente, one of them – dressed with a blue sweater – shot to the driver’s side.
In a video captured by another driver, it is observed how the agricultural truck, in which the victims of the assault were traveling, ran over the two attackers who mobilized on a motorcycle.
Police requested images of video cameras in the sector, which allowed to follow the trail of suspects.
