The Honduran authorities captured a Guatemalan citizen claimed in extradition for the justice of El Salvador, which accuses him of the crime of very serious injuries, the National Police of Honduras reported.
The Guatemalan, 45, was arrested in the municipality of OMOA, department of Cortés, to the north of the country, by the International Police (Interpol), the Honduran police said in a statement.
The arrested had an international notification of international search and is required by the First Instruction Court of Santa Ana, El Salvador, since March 2024, to appear before the Justice, considering it responsible for the crime of very serious injuries, the report detailed.
Honduran authorities announced that Guatemalan will be extradited to El Salvador, in accordance with established legal procedures.
The Honduran Police highlighted Interpol’s commitment to strengthen regional security and ensure that criminals do not find refuge in sister countries.
In addition, he stressed the importance of international security cooperation, especially through information exchange and coordination between countries in the region.
Through their efforts, not only the capture of individuals trying to avoid justice is sought, but also the prevention of impunity that is generated when the fugitives take refuge in neighboring nations, adds the statement.
Honduras security forces reaffirmed their commitment to justice and security, and assured that they will work hard to protect citizens and ensure that those who commit crimes face the consequences of their acts, regardless of borders.
