An armed attack against the driver of a private vehicle complicated traffic on the morning of Friday, April 17, in the Naranjo bridge sector, one of the main connections between Mixco and Guatemala City, authorities reported.
According to the Municipal Firefighters, a 51-year-old man was injured by a firearm projectile and received pre-hospital assistance at the scene. Later, he was transferred to a care center.
Agents from the National Civil Police (PNC) went to the site, who cordoned off the area, while the processing of the scene and the corresponding procedures were coordinated with the Public Ministry (MP). Until now the victim had not been identified.
The incident caused serious complications in vehicular mobility. Amílcar Montejo, director of Communication at Emetra, reported that the attack affects the connection from Condado Naranjo to the Periférico, which forced road closures to be implemented in the area.
As a consequence, long lines of vehicles were generated, especially in the lanes leading from Mixco to the capital, a route that is used daily by thousands of drivers. Traffic authorities recommended caution and looking for alternative routes to avoid further delays.
The congestion spread to nearby roads, while traffic agents regulated the passage and closures were maintained to facilitate the work of the authorities in charge of the investigation.
