A deceased motorcyclist and several traffic accidents have been reported during the night of Saturday 18 and early hours of Sunday April 19 on different routes in the country, in the middle of rains that intensified.

The climatic conditions, characterized by cloudy and persistent rainfallwould have had an impact on the reduction of visibility and the slippery state of the asphalt, complicating vehicular circulation.

The Road Protection Unit (Provial) reported at 7 a.m. that A motorcyclist died after skidding on the CA-2 Oeste route in PatululSuchitepéquez.

At around 6 in the morning, it was reported that another motorist was injured also when skidding at kilometer 104 of the route to the Atlantic.

At the same time, in road to El Salvadorat kilometer 22, the crash of a truck was reported, which obstructed the right lane towards the east.

During the night and early morning hours of Saturday, various mishaps were also reported; in the Atanasio road and 37 streeta motorcyclist who was not identified and approximately 45 years old, died due to multiple trauma.

Also, at 3 in the morning, on the 6th. avenue and 12 street in zone 9 of the capital, a woman was injured and was stabilized by Municipal Firefighters paramedics. The driver had blows to the head, so she was taken to Roosevelt Hospital.

The Volunteer Firefighters reported two more accidents; one on the San Juan road and 2a. avenue, zone 7, and in a collision between two vehicles near the entrance to Jutiapa at kilometer 117.5.

The rains continue

According to the forecast, the rains will persist in several regions of the countryincluding the central highlands where Guatemala City is located.

For the afternoon and evening, precipitation with electrical activity is expected from the south to the center, northeast, west and north, due to the entry of humidity and daytime heating. Authorities recommend caution in the face of severe local storms, with abundant rain, gusts of wind and possible hail.
