This Monday, April 27, the Public Ministry (MP) expanded details of the operation that investigators carried out in the surroundings of the La Aurora Zoo, zone 13 of the capital.
He added that, as a result, he identified 33 people who are dedicated to taking care of vehicles in the sector and installed a fixed police security post to protect visitors.
According to the investigating entity, the procedure was carried out following complaints from foreign tourists, who have indicated that, in the vicinity of the place, people impersonate zoo employees.
Furthermore, according to the complaints, these people demand payments ranging between Q35 and US$50 (Q381) to allow parking, and later take advantage of the visit to open the vehicles and steal belongings.
“These actions aim to strengthen the ongoing investigation, identify those responsible and prevent the commission of crimes, protecting the life, integrity and heritage of the more than 7 thousand national and foreign visitors who come to the place every weekend,” the MP remarked.
The actions were carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes against Foreign Tourists, in coordination with the Guatemalan Tourism Institute and the National Civil Police.
