According to the official table, in the Guatemala City The reference price in self-service mode remained at Q36.76 for superior gasoline, Q35.76 for regular gasoline and Q34.32 for diesel per gallon.

When comparing these values with the April 16 monitoring in the metropolitan area, a significant reduction is evident:

  • Regular gasoline: fell from Q38.21 to Q35.76 (−Q2.45)

Where is fuel cheaper?

According to the reference prices in departmental capitals, the cheapest fuel is located in:

  • Puerto Barrios, Izabal
    Regular gasoline: Q35.55
    Higher gasoline: Q36.55
    Diesel: Q34.11

  • Flores, Petén (header)
    Regular gasoline: Q36.91
    Higher gasoline: Q37.91
    Diesel: Q35.47
  • Municipalities of Petén (higher due to transportation costs)
    Regular gasoline: up to Q39.91
    Higher gasoline: Q39.11
    Diesel: Q38.47

This difference responds to the cost of land freight, which has a greater impact on departments far from storage terminals, as explained by the portfolio and the hydrocarbon sector.

MEM establishes agreement

The MEM published this Tuesday, April 28, a ministerial agreement 189-2026, which establishes the calculation mechanism to determine the reference prices in terminal (Ex-rack), and those of reference to the final consumer for the implementation of the subsidy, effective from this May 1.

With this measure:

  • Weekly reference prices are made official.
  • Gas stations must display them in a visible place.
  • The Directorate of Consumer Care and Assistance (Diaco) will use these parameters to supervise the market.

The agreement establishes that prices apply in the 22 departments of the country and will be updated weekly by the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH).

In practice, the reduction is already beginning to be passed on to the consumer, especially in diesel, which shows the steepest drop driven by state support.
