A traffic accident occurred in the Bella Aurora residential area, zone 6 of Retalhuleu, where two agents of the National Civil Police (PNC) were run over by a private vehicle.
According to preliminary versions, the incident occurred while police officers were carrying out a chase against alleged criminals, who had committed an assault in a store in the sector.
In the images captured by the surveillance cameras located at the site, The moment in which the agents are hit by the vehicle is observed.
According to some witnesses, the police were driving at excessive speed and did not respect the stop sign, while the car involved was traveling on the street with the right of way, without being able to avoid the impact.
In the images you can see that, due to the force of the impact, the PNC agents fall on the opposite side of the street. The impact also caused the front bumper of the car to detach, whose driver stopped driving a few meters in front of where the accident occurred.
The agents were evaluated by the local Volunteer Firefighters who confirmed that both suffered blows to different parts of the body. One of them was also reported to have suffered fractures to his lower extremities.
Both agents were transferred to the emergency of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (Igss). So far, there has been no report on the capture of the suspects who were being pursued by the agents at the time of the accident.
The incident is under investigation and The corresponding authorities will have to determine the responsibilities for the incident.
