The authorities confirmed the death of Hansel Ernesto Szarata Valdéswho worked at the General Directorate of Congress of the Republicdue to a firearm wound in an incident that occurred this Saturday, April 5, 2025.
The event occurred in the parking lot of a Shopping Center in Zone 16 from Guatemala City.
Szarata Valdés served as Head of the Legal Management Department of said institutionwhich was confirmed by the Congress of the Republic, which also expressed its condolences through a scheme published in its official channels.

Attack details
According to the first investigations, the security agents of the mall reported having heard several detonations. Upon arriving at the place, the authorities found the body of Szarata Valdés next to their vehicle, dark blue.
The reports indicate that the victim presented a bullet wound in the thorax, of the right side. In addition, Four bushings.
The authorities, who have not yet identified those responsible for the attack, continue with the investigations.
A face -to -face witness mentioned that, apparently, there was a discussion between people drunk before shooting, but this data has not yet been confirmed by the authorities, who have reiterated that the investigation is ongoing to clarify the facts.
Rumors have circulated in social networks that link Szarata Valdés with a complaint for apparent violence against his ex -partner. However, until the closing of this note, the Prosecutor’s Office has not confirmed or denied such information.
The case remains under investigation by the National Civil Police (PNC) and the Public Ministry.
