Alejandra Higueros reaffirmed her place among the best in world poomsae this weekend by winning four medals in two competitions held in London. The Guatemalan taekwondo player participated in the London Open Poomsae 2026 and the WT President’s Cup Europe 2026 on May 2 and 3, where she competed against more than 90 athletes representing world powers in this discipline. Their results confirm that Guatemala continues to have a world-class reference in women’s poomsae.

In the WT President’s Cup Europe 2026, a G3 category competition held on May 3, Higueros was the undisputed figure. lThe Guatemalan was crowned champion in the recognized individual women’s poomsae in a division with 98 competitors. Her second gold medal came in the women’s individual freestyle modality, consolidating a high-level performance that allowed her to add 30 points to first place in each modality, thus strengthening her position in the World Taekwondo world ranking.

At the London Open Poomsae 2026, held the day before, Higueros also reached the podium in both modalities. The Guatemalan won the bronze medal in women’s individual recognized poomsae in a division of 90 competitors, and the silver medal in women’s individual freestyle, standing out against athletes from countries such as Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Croatia and Ireland in what was a complete performance throughout the two days of competition in the British capital.

César Aguilar won the bronze medal in the WT President’s Cup in men’s individual freestyle, in a division with competitors from different countries around the world, thus completing a participation of five total medals for Guatemalan poomsae in the British capital.

The performance of the Guatemalan team in London is part of its preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, which will be held next July. With Higueros as third in the world ranking and with results like this weekend’s, Guatemala arrives with great expectations at the regional event where the poomsae chapín will seek to demonstrate once again that its level competes with the best in the world.
