The director of the National Civil Police (PNC), David Boteo, referred this Thursday, May 7, to the statement from the Constitutional Court (CC), in which it denounces threats and attacks against magistrates.
The official stated that, after learning of these threats, a risk analysis team from the Personality Protection Division of the PNC was appointed to follow up on the case, verify the information and, if confirmed, assign suitable personnel to provide security to the officials.
In addition, Boteo indicated that they carry out a risk analysis to verify the information with each of the officers and determine if it is necessary to provide them with security.
What the CC reported
The CC reported: “During the last few days, it has been noted with deep concern that various threats and attacks have been made against the presiding judge of this Court and other judges of this Court.”
He also strongly rejected all actions that seek to attack the principles that guarantee the free and independent exercise of the jurisdictional function.
Likewise, he called on citizens and public and private actors to conduct themselves within a framework of respect, legality and democratic dialogue, and repudiated any form of violence or intimidation.
Gladys Annabella Morfín Mansilla is the current president of the CC. The other regular magistrates are Astrid Jeannette Lemus Rodríguez, Roberto Molina Barreto, Dina Josefina Ochoa Escribá and Julia Marisol Rivera Aguilar.
The substitute judges are María Magdalena Jocholá Tujal, Luis Fernando Bermejo Quiñónez, Luis Alfonso Rosales Marroquín, Claudia Elizabeth Paniagua Pérez and José Luis Aguirre Pumay.
