Marco Antonio Figueroa made headlines again for his statements after Comunicaciones’ 2-2 draw against Xelajú MC in the first leg of the Clausura 2026 semifinals. The Chilean coach exploded at a press conference against a sector of the fans who insulted him from the stands during the match and did not mince words to express their discomfort.
“From the beginning, since we were fighting relegation, we knew we were alone. It doesn’t matter that the stadium is full, we were always supported by the same people behind the goal,” The Ghost stated before going more direct. “That’s why everything that the morons who stand behind the bench shout at me makes me sad, all of them, a bunch of morons.”said the technician.
Figueroa also set off alarm bells by announcing that at the end of the season there will be a massive restructuring of the squad. “12 are leaving this team, because on this team not everyone deserves to be on a team like Communications,” stated the Chilean, who was even included in that possible exit list. “Maybe I’m number 13, because sometimes all this is tiring, really tiring,” he said.
The coach also recalled the work he has done since his arrival at the club. “They brought me in to do a job and I did my job fully. They told me: save my team, and I saved the team, and I have them playing in the semifinals and they are not happy,” Figueroa remarked.
The coach was also critical of the level of the current squad and left a direct message for the board and the fans. “What Communications deserves is not what it has now, but it is what it is. They call me Ghost, they don’t call me Harry Potter”said Figueroa, who also recalled that the team came from last place in the table before his arrival. “You forgot that this team scored 20 points, last place in the general table. You forgot all the effort we made to get out of that zone,” stated the Chilean.
Communications bound to win
Despite the explosive tone of his statements, Figueroa reserved a message of encouragement for the faithful fans and made the objective clear for the second leg. “The only thing I tell the band, the faithful, is that we are going to win the game in Quetzaltenango,” stated the coach, who also regretted the absences of Ortiz and Domínguez. “It weighs heavily on us not to have Ortiz and Domínguez, who were key to saving the team,” he pointed out.
The 2-2 draw leaves Comunicaciones in a complicated situation ahead of the return leg on Sunday, May 10 at 7:00 PM at the Mario Camposeco Stadium in Quetzaltenango. The Cremas are obliged to win to advance to the final since the tiebreaker criteria favors Xelajú MC for having finished as the leader of the Clausura 2026. A defeat or a draw would qualify the Superchivos, so Comunicaciones will have to play a historic match in one of the most difficult stadiums in the National League to stay alive in the tournament.
