This May 8, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, confirmed an agreement with Russia to effect a ceasefire between May 9 and 11in addition to an exchange of a thousand prisoners from each country.

The president indicated that the agreement could be finalized thanks to US mediation and thanked to President Donald Trump and members of his administration for “their diplomatic efforts.”

“In the framework of the negotiating process mediated by the US side, we have received Russia’s approval to carry out a prisoner exchange in the thousand-for-thousand format. A ceasefire will also be established on May 9, 10 and 11,” the Ukrainian president said on his social networks.

“Ukraine is working consistently to bring its people home from Russian captivity. I have instructed our team to quickly prepare everything necessary for the exchange,” he added.

The president said he hopes Washington can ensure that Moscow meets the agreed conditions.

In addition to Zelensky, Donald Trump also confirmed the ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, which includes suspend all air and ground attacks.

I am pleased to announce that there will be a three-day ceasefire (May 9, 10 and 11) in the war between Russia and Ukraine. The celebration in Russia is on the occasion of Victory Day; Likewise, it is celebrated in Ukraine, since this country was also a fundamental element and played a decisive role in World War II,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.

Moscow would also have unilaterally confirmed a three-day truce with Ukraine on the occasion of Victory Day.
