Gerardo Reyes is a Mexican migrant who was recently transferred to an ICE detention center in Texas, because He was arrested at a police checkpoint while driving his vehicle in the company of his son.

The San Marcos Police later announced that agent Jaciel Cortina, involved in Reyes’ arrest, was temporarily suspended for 24 hourswhile investigations continue to clarify what happened.

However, as Deputy Prosecutor Greg Coxx noted in a document announcing the decision, the prosecution believes that the police officer acted “within his legal authority” at the time of arrest.
