Derrickson Quirós will not play with Xelajú MC again. The Costa Rican midfielder confirmed on social networks that he was unable to resolve the personal situation that prevents him from leaving Costa Rica and returning to Guatemala to rejoin the team. His last game with the superchivos was on April 5 in the group stage against Malacateco in which they won 1-0.
The attacker traveled to Costa Rica on April 7 for personal reasons and planned to return days later. but a family situation related to a “former partner” prevented him from leaving the country. Quirós publicly rejected the accusations and assured that he had not had contact with that person for years.
In his farewell message, the footballer regretted not having been able to continue with the Altense club. “Unfortunately, I have not been able to resolve my personal situation to leave Costa Rica and rejoin the team as planned. I am leaving very hurt since I had great desires to continue defending these colors,” the forward expressed.
Quirós also confirmed that his departure from the club is already in process. “My representative is already working on a settlement agreement with the club, with the hope of joining a Costa Rican soccer team soon and getting back to doing what I love most: playing soccer,” said the Costa Rican attacker.
A loss that weighed on the league
The absence of Derrickson Quirós became one of the significant losses for Xelajú MC in the final phase of Clausura 2026. The Costa Rican striker had scored three goals with the superchido team and was one of the offensive variants used by coach Roberto Hernández before being unable to return to Guatemala.
Despite the attacker’s loss, Xelajú managed to advance to the final of the tournament and keeps the dream of the title alive. The superchivos will host Municipal next Saturday, May 23 at the Mario Camposeco stadium, where they will seek to overcome the 4-1 loss suffered in the first leg to try to win a new championship.
With this, the Costa Rican attacker puts an end to a brief period with Xelajú MC, marked by personal problems that prevented him from returning to the country and continuing a tournament in which the Quetzaltecan club still dreams of lifting the Clausura 2026 title.
