This Thursday, May 21, businessman Enrique Riquelme officially communicated to the Real Madrid Electoral Board his intention to stand in the elections for the club’s presidency against Florentino Pérez, current president of the entity.

Riquelme informed the Electoral Board that he has “the willingness to run as a candidate for the presidency of Real Madrid, leading the corresponding candidacy for the board of directors, whose formal presentation will be made in a timely manner in accordance with the applicable regulations.”

Riquelme emphasizes that the candidacy he leads “meets the requirements set out in the Social Statutes and current electoral regulations to hold this status. “My objective is to present a project for the Real Madrid of the future, exciting for all Real Madrid fans and especially focused on once again putting the members as protagonists of a new cycle, guaranteeing that they will always be the sole and true owners of the best club in the world,” the businessman adds in his communication.

The letter sent by Riquelme concludes with the request that “the prior notification of candidacy provided for in the IIT section of the electoral regulations be considered carried out in a timely manner, for the appropriate purposes.”

Riquelme, who last Monday assured that he had the necessary endorsement to be president of Real Madrid, is willing to maintain the electoral fight with Florentino Pérez and go to elections that would be held next June, according to the deadlines. The businessman already noted on Wednesday that he had an “ethical and moral obligation to take a step forward.”

“Those of us who do not agree with privatization want Real Madrid to be one of its partners,” he said, and warned that “they could be the last elections” in the white club “because privatization is coming.”
