Jaime Penedo did not forget to show his support for Municipal. The former Panamanian goalkeeper, who won four titles with the Reds between 2008 and 2011, sent a message of support to Mario Acevedo’s team before the Clausura 2026 second leg final against Xelajú MC. “I want to send a huge hug to all those red fans,” expressed from Panama.

The former scarlet goalkeeper also showed confidence in the red team ahead of the decisive match in Quetzaltenango. “I’m sure they will give everything to lift that 33,” stated Penedo, in reference to the possible title that would make Municipal the winningest club in Guatemalan soccer.

Municipal will arrive at Mario Camposeco with a 4-1 advantage in the series after winning the first leg played at El Trébol. The Reds need to avoid Xelajú’s comeback to win the championship and break the streak of lost finals against Antigua GFC in 2025.

Penedo knows what it means to play finals with Municipal. During his time in Guatemala he won the Clausura 2008, Apertura 2009, Clausura 2010 and Apertura 2011 titles, becoming one of the foreigners most remembered by the scarlet fans.

Municipal goes on 33

The Panamanian goalkeeper made it clear that his affection for Municipal remains intact despite the passing of the years. From his country, Penedo showed his support for the red team before the final duel against Xelajú MC at the Mario Camposeco.

The final match is scheduled for this Saturday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at the Mario Camposeco stadium, where Municipal will seek to lift its 33rd title, the 21st in short tournaments, and become the winningest club in the history of Guatemalan soccer.
