The Honduran police forces reported this Friday night the death of one of their agents, while a second remains injured in a hospital after being attacked by members of Mara 18.
This is according to official statements from the Honduran National Police, which reported the death of agent Brian Fernando Parada Figueroa, while Tiffany Johani Brevé, also an officer, was injured.
Versions indicate that the two agents were patrolling on foot in the sector known as Chamelecón, in San Pedro Sula, when individuals linked to Mara 18 shot them in the back.
The intensity of the attack generated alarm among the neighbors, since the agents were able to react and there was an exchange of shots between the agents and the gang members. Local authorities report that at least two gang members are injured.
After the arrival of paramedics and more police officers, another deceased person was located: Josafat Jurin Gómez Alvarado, 45 years old.
Reports indicate that the man was walking through the area when one of the bullets from the incident hit the man, who lost his life.
This week five Honduran police officers were attacked in a violent incident, and some time later 20 people were murdered on a palm farm.
The acts of crime that have plagued Honduras in recent days have caused border points to be reinforced in Guatemala.
