Hearing of first statement of two accused for attack against Chinautla councilor postponed

The hearing of the first statement of two men involved in the attack against the fourth councilor of the Municipality of Chinautla and her husband will have to wait one more day. These are Benjamín Ponciano Gómez and Josué Adán Vicente, who were captured after being accused of being responsible for the attack.

According to the police report, after failing to achieve their objective, the suspects fled after the victims’ vehicle hit them. After a police operation, those captured were transferred to the Court Tower. They are charged with the crime of attempted murder.

The hearing began on the night of Friday, May 22; However, it was postponed at the request of one of the defense lawyers of the accused, with the aim of proving roots.

Upon request, the judge on duty postponed the hearing to Sunday, May 24, without specifying a time, since it is subject to the judiciary’s hearing scheduling.

The incident occurred at kilometer 11.5 of the route to San Pedro Ayampuc, La Laguneta village, zone 18, where Brenda Granados, councilor of the Municipality of Chinautla, and her husband, Rony Orlando González, were unharmed. The vehicle in which they were traveling had several bullet holes.

The motorcycle driven by the attackers was left at the scene of the attack, as well as the gun used in the attack, which was packed at the scene and will form part of the investigation.

One of the hypotheses indicates that the attack could be related to political differences. Rony González indicated that they will seek to join the process against the suspects of the attack, whom they identify and point out as responsible for the attack against them.

He added that both were returning from a technical visit to the El Chan 1 neighborhood, jurisdiction of Chinautla, where members of the Council would have participated.

Through a statement, the Unionist Party condemned the attack against Rony González, municipal coordinator in Chinautla of that political group. In the document they demand justice for the incident, that the reasons for the attack be investigated and that the alleged material and intellectual perpetrators be punished.
