The former head of Social Communication of the Public Ministry (MP) and advisor to the former commanders of the investigating entity, Juan Luis Pantaleón González, resigned from his position, a week after Gabriel García Luna took office as attorney general.

The information about the resignation was confirmed by a source from the Public Ministrywhich also indicated that Pantaleón’s resignation became effective on May 23. The information was also corroborated by the Communication department of the investigating entity, although without detailing the reasons for Pantaleón’s departure.

One week after Gabriel García Luna assumed the position of attorney generalseveral changes have been registered within the institution’s staff, mainly in positions of trust, such as the case of the former secretary general of the MP, Ángel Pineda, as well as the former head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity (Feci), Rafael Curruchiche.

Pineda presented his resignation from office on May 17, the same day that García Luna assumed the positionwhile Curruchiche was dismissed on May 20 by the attorney general, who days before had announced the closure of the Feci.

Closeness to Ángel Pineda

As for Juan Luis Pantaleón, it is known that he is close to Ángel Pineda, because for several years they worked together in the Judicial Branch (OJ). Currently, Pantaleón worked as an advisor to the MP, but he was also director of the Department of Social Communication of the Public Ministry.

Pantaleón gained the trust of former Attorney General Consuelo Porras, which led him to become one of her closest advisors and collaborators within the institution.

At the moment it is not known who will be appointed to replace Pantaleón González in the position of director of Social Communication of the Public Ministry.

New work team

After the Attorney General, Gabriel García Luna, took office, he began to carry out the integration of his work team. Among the first appointments made is Edwin Santiago Chavajay Chavajay, as general secretary of the Public Ministry; Shirley García Ovalle, Secretary of International Affairs and Cooperation and Rony López Galindo, who will direct the Secretariat of Information Technology Affairs.

The professionals appointed by García Luna in these positions have professional experience in entities such as the Attorney General’s Office (PGN) and the Judicial Branch (OJ), where they have acquired experience in different positions related to the justice sector.
