The Colombian singer Shakira launched this Saturday, May 23, the official music video for “Dai Dai”the official song of the 2026 World Cup, in collaboration with Nigerian artist Burna Boy.
The production, approximately four minutes, was filmed in Miami and directed by Hannah Lux Davis. However, beyond the premiere, a specific fragment of the video has focused attention on social networks since last week, when a preview was released, and reignited the debate.
The montage shows the celebration of a free kick goal by Cristiano Ronaldo against Spain during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, so much so that it sealed the 3-3 tie between both teams and came after a foul committed by Gerard Piqué.
The presence of that particular play—and not another moment of the tournament—triggered a wave of interpretations among followers of the artist and soccer fans.
The conversation resurfaces
The preview of the video clip was released on May 17 on Instagram and other official platforms. In it, the artist mixed historical images from past World Cups with unpublished scenes alongside several international stars.
The controversy arose due to the connection between that emblematic play by Ronaldo and Piqué’s direct participation in the action, which many interpreted as a hint from Shakira towards her ex-partner.
The attention of some followers was focused on that specific play: the goal that Cristiano Ronaldo scored against Spain during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The match and the play
The match between Spain and Portugal in the first phase of the 2018 World Cup in Russia is considered one of the most memorable of the tournament.
Cristiano Ronaldo was decisive by scoring three goals, allowing Portugal to draw 3-3 and obtain a fundamental point. Piqué joined the Spanish team as a starter.
The Portuguese’s third goal, from a free kick in the 87th minute, frustrated the Spanish victory and was recorded among the most remembered plays of that World Cup.
