After two days that residents of several communities block the passage in km 279 of the CA-13 route, in San Antonio Sejá, Lívingston, Izabal, the circulation was enabled after agreements were reached to analyze the legality of a mining project in the place. However, the dissatisfied gave an ultimatum to the authorities.
Officials were presented on Tuesday, April 8 to the place of the blockade and confirmed to the protesters that there is a current environmental license for said mining exploitation project, so they promised to review the legality of the same.
One of the first steps will be a visit next Wednesday to the area where the project is intended to be executed, which, according to the settlers, will affect the water supply because the Santa Cruz hill puts at risk.
The protesters demand that all licenses related to said mining project be repealed and, according to local media, gave deadline until Friday, otherwise they will resume the de facto measures.
Deputy Edgardo Ramírez participated in mediation and proposed, in a publication on social networks, that the process is initiated for the place to be declared a protected area.
In addition, the dissatisfied request that all negotiations be open to guarantee the legality of the process. They ensure that there are five licenses that must be repealed.
