Xochi, Corredor de las Flores, is inaugurated and is ready to begin operating this Sunday

The Xochi project, Corredor de las Flores, was inaugurated this Friday, June 12, and will begin operations this Sunday.

Xochi joins one of the most important logistics hubs in the country, by activating a connectivity alternative on the southern coast that will generate concrete effects on mobility, productive activity and territorial and social integration, highlighted the company in charge.

He added that, after meticulous structuring and nearly three years of execution in the field, the project offered job opportunities to more than four thousand people, mostly from the surrounding communities.

It is worth remembering that The work was interrupted for a few days in the section that passes through Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez, because the local commune did not extend the extension of the license. However, after agreements between the company and the municipality, the work continued.

This June 14, operations will begin, which will reduce travel times between Suchitepéquez and Retalhuleu and improve the connection between strategic municipalities for the region’s economy.

This highway, of more than 30 kilometers, extends from kilometer 142.5, in San Antonio Suchitepéquez, to kilometer 172, in San Andrés Villa Seca, Retalhuleu, and articulates a relevant part of the agricultural, livestock, agro-industrial and tourist production of the country. The improvement in connectivity directly affects logistics efficiency, transportation predictability and the generation of new development opportunities.

During the opening ceremony, Carlos Colom, director of the Xochi company, offered details about the completion of the road project that will open to the public this Sunday.

He highlighted that the work faced multiple challenges, from land negotiation to the engineering and construction of an elevated highway, with steps under the existing roads so as not to interrupt the flow of traffic.

He highlighted the complexity of the design due to the rivers and rainy climate, as well as the need to carry out considerable earthworks to ensure safe and efficient traffic.

The director explained that the financing of the project was democratized with more than 700 investors, including small businessmen in the region, which allowed the work to be carried out in an innovative, inclusive and fair way.
