According to the preliminary report of the National Civil Police (PNC), two agents were injured during an armed confrontation that occurred on the night of Saturday June 13 in it Democracy neighborhoodin Morales, Izabal, when security forces were trying to identify the occupants of a vehicle in a sector where, according to the authorities, several armed men were present.
The official version indicates that the Police officers were shot at by individuals carrying high caliber weapons, so they repelled the aggression.
As a result, two officers suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The PNC also reported on the preliminary arrest of five people and the seizure of nine firearms.
The authorities link the detainees with a criminal structure known as “The Carpenter”accused of alleged activities related to the drug trafficking in several departments of the country.

A video captured by a surveillance camera shows part of the moments before and during the armed incident that occurred last night.
In the images, several police officers are seen next to a vehicle whose occupants were intervened.
One of the police officers appears on the ground while another helps him, while other officers point towards the driver and order him to get out of the car.
Seconds later Multiple gunshots are heard coming from the surrounding area, forcing officers to seek cover behind parked vehicles and a police cruiser.
The video also shows an agent responding to the attack while remaining protected near the driver already reduced to the ground.

Since then, the PNC has maintained an operation in the area with support from the Army.
According to preliminary information, it is presumed that more armed people remain inside, so the Public Ministry is taking steps to obtain a search warrant and continue with the corresponding procedures.
After the confrontation, security forces reinforced the area with the support of specialized units and military personnel were deployed.
Neighbors reported street closures and checkpoints in different parts of the area while authorities’ efforts continued.
