A Civil Court granted a provisional amparo to the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and ordered the Guatemalan Education Workers Union (Steg) to refrain from executing de facto measures announced for Thursday, April 10.
The Tenth Court of the Civil Branch granted on Wednesday, April 9, a provisional amparo to the Mineduc, through which Steg is ordered to refrain from taking actions that affect educational processes in the country.
Calls circulate for a demonstration on Thursday, April 10 by the Steg. However, such information has not been confirmed by the union leadership, which requires a salary increase.
Given this, the MINEDUC filed an appeal for amparo in order to stop the actions announced by the trade unionists.
“The Tenth Court of the Civil Branch of the Department of Guatemala granted us the provisional protection that orders the Steg to refrain from blocking streets and roads, taking schools and buildings, suspending classes or performing any action that hinders the work of the Ministry of Education,” wrote the head of said portfolio, Anabella Giracca, in her X account.
It is detailed in the Judicial Resolution: “Provisional protection is granted in favor of the State of Guatemala, through the Attorney General. As a consequence, the Union of Workers and Workers of the Education of Guatemala is ordered to refrain from making de facto measures related to the undue suspension of teachers that affect educational services; illicit blockages that violate the right to free the right to free the right to free population, as well as the illegitimate occupation of educational facilities that cause the paralysis of administrative and teachers, affecting the right to education of children and adolescence nationwide and in all departmental directorates ”.
PMT remains on alert
For his part, Amílcar Montejo, director of Communication at Emetra, indicated that until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, they have not received official notification of mobilizations for Thursday, April 10. However, he pointed out that they remain on alert due to calls that circulate on social networks.
“So far we have no notification from the Union of Education Workers. We do not have notification of the Departmental Government or the Ministry of the Interior. Yes it is necessary to mention that we have obtained data from some media and we have also obtained information from social networks,” said Montejo.
He added that some STEG subsidiaries have informed about a concentration in the Obelisk Square from 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.
“Timely we have a plan for contingency issues, emergency or emergency situations, and we will establish it for tomorrow. There is no demonstration, we will have a provision of personnel to expedite the reversible lanes and also those perimeter points to the Plaza del Obelisco, Avenida Reforma, Route 6 of Zone 4, Plaza la República la República commented.
The spokesman recommended using alternate routes such as the Peripheral, Mariachis Square, Bolívar Avenue, Santa Cecilia Avenue, Atanasio Tzul Calzada and La Castellana Avenue.
“They can also use the diagonal 6 of zone 10, Vista Hermosa Boulevard, Rafael Landívar Boulevard, Austrian Boulevard and Lourdes Boulevard.
Montejo said they are aware that another group could manifest themselves in the vicinity of the Congress of the Republic.
