Guatemala accumulates US,709.1 million in exports and strengthens its sales to Central America

Guatemalan exports generated US$5,709.1 million (about Q43,446.3 million) between January and April 2026. During that period, Central America displaced the United States and became the main destination for national products.

The income of foreign currency from Guatemala’s exports to the international market added US$5 thousand 709.1 million (Q43 thousand 446.3 million) between January and April of this year, which represents an increase of 5.8% compared to the same period in 2025, according to statistics disclosed by the Bank of Guatemala in its official channels.

According to central banking figures, foreign exchange from exports was higher in US$312.3 million (Q2 thousand 377.6 million) to the amount registered during the four months of 2025, which stood at US$5 thousand 396.8 million (Q41 thousand 068.6 million).

The products that generated the most foreign exchange from exports in the first four months of 2026 were, first of all, coffee, with US$692.1 million (Q5 thousand 267.9 million)equivalent to 12.1% of the total.

Clothing items took second place, with US$510 million (Q3 thousand 881.1 million)equivalent to 8.9% of the total, followed by sugar, with US$416.5 million (Q3 thousand 170.6 million)which represented 7.3%.

In fourth place were banana exports, which totaled US$370.1 million (Q2 thousand 816.5 million)equivalent to 6.5%; edible fats and oils, with US$306.2 million (Q2 thousand 330.2 million)5.4%; and fresh, dried or frozen fruits, with US$219.9 million (Q1 one thousand 673.4 million)3.9%, among other products.

According to the Bank of Guatemala, the main destinations for Guatemalan exports between January and April of this year were Central America and the United States.

To the countries of the Central American region, Guatemala sold products for US$1 one thousand 851 million (Q14 one thousand 086.1 million)equivalent to 32.4% of the total foreign currency generated by exports.

Meanwhile, to the US market the country exported products for US$1 one thousand 838 million (Q13 one thousand 987.2 million)equivalent to 32.2% of the total, followed by the eurozone countries, with US$500.3 million (Q3 one thousand 807.3 million)8.8%; Mexico, with US$244.8 million (Q1 one thousand 862.9 million)4.3%; and Canada, with US$159.7 million (Q1 one thousand 215.3 million)2.8%, among other destinations.

Guatemala closed last year with US$15 one thousand 595.3 million (Q118 one thousand 180.2 million) in foreign exchange earnings from exports, a figure higher than the US$14 one thousand 556.3 million (Q110 one thousand 272.4 million) registered in 2024.
