The structural damage detected in the filling of the entrance bridge to the Island of Flores, Petén, They forced vehicular traffic to that sector to be restricted, so access for the general population can only be done on foot or by water transport.

The Municipality of Flores reported on its social networks that emergency inter-institutional coordination was activated to begin rehabilitation work in the affected area.

According to the commune, the measures seek to guarantee the safety of people and maintain connectivity between Santa Elena and Flores Island while the works are being developed.

The authorities indicated that pedestrian entry continues to be enabled, although they asked users to take the necessary precautions. In addition, they recommended using water transportation as an alternative for mobility.

The municipality also reported that only emergency vehicles and duly identified medical personnel providing health services are allowed access.

In the case of residents of the Flores Islandthe entry of vehicles that have the corresponding tag was authorized. However, the authorities asked to avoid unnecessary trips and indicated that traffic will suffer partial restrictions when heavy machinery operates in the sector.

Separately, the Community Development Council (Cocode) of Flores announced that it will prepare a new list for the management of access cards aimed exclusively at residents of the island.

To be included in the registry, interested parties must present the personal identification document (DPI), the vehicle license plates and an electricity bill that proves their residence on the Island of Flores.

The Cocode clarified that people who already have an authorized tag should not carry out the procedure again, although they must carry their corresponding identification, since it may be required by the Municipal Transit Police (PMT).

The authorities called on the population to stay informed through official channels and collaborate with the measures implemented while work on the access bridge continues.
