Quijivix underwent the special acceptance of charges procedure in this case, in which, according to the investigation, suspicious bank transactions linked to its accounts for an approximate value of Q85 million were detected.

Just last March 3, Melvin Quijivix, former president of the National Institute of Electrification (INDE), was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, commutable after accepting charges.

Prior to the intermediate stage hearing, the defense requested the modification of the crime of laundering money or other assets to that of conspiracy to launder money or other assets, a request that was accepted by Judge Arnulfo Carrera.

After the judge’s resolution, the hearing to accept charges was held, after the change in legal qualification.
