Luis Romo’s confession after giving Mexico the victory against South Korea

Luis Romo became the hero of the Mexican team after scoring the winning goal against South Korea and qualify his team to the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.

After a mistake by Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu, the Mexican player took advantage of the opportunity to push the ball and score the only goal of the match, played on June 18.

With this result, Mexico is the sole leader of Group A with 6 points, while South Korea remains in second place with 3. Czech Republic and South Africa occupy the last positions, with 1 point each.

After the game, the Mexican midfielder gave statements to TV Azteca, where he not only commented on his feelings after giving Mexico the victory, but also how he felt about playing his first World Cup.

Romo said, according to media outlets such as Infobaewho was sure he would participate in the game against South Korea, but it was not until the previous talk when he found out that he would be a starter on “Vasco” Aguirre’s team.

“I prepared, but I didn’t confirm that I was going to play until the technical talk. The night before I told my wife that I felt like I was going to play and I prepared to be ready. In the talk I officially confirmed it. It was my debut in a World Cup, after four games on the bench“Romo said.

The player also highlighted how his family has been his emotional support both before the game and after achieving victory, especially his wife, who was the first person he looked for once the meeting ended.

“My wife has been a fundamental support; we have talked a lot about the difficult situations that I have experienced in my career and she was with me. I wanted to infect her and make her feel part of this moment.“he added.

Regarding the goal, the player stressed that he took advantage of the moment when there were several rejections, which caused the Korean goalkeeper to make an error and allowed him to score 1-0.

“The goal play originated after several rebounds in the area. I observed that the goalkeeper was forced and a teammate made him uncomfortable, which left the ball free,” he said.
