Spain assumed the lead in Group H of the 2026 World Cup after beating Saudi Arabia 4-0 on the second day. La Roja left behind a goalless draw against Cape Verde thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal, a double from Mikel Oyarzabal and an own goal from Hassan Tambakti.
With the victory, the Spanish reached four points and remained the sole leaders of the area. Their goal difference also allows them to face the final day in a favorable position.
Uruguay, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to take the top of the group by drawing 2-2 against Cape Verde. La Celeste has two points, the same as the African team, but remains ahead thanks to a better goal difference.
Cape Verde continues to be the big surprise of the group. The Blue Sharks remain undefeated after drawing against Spain and Uruguay, and will arrive with qualification options on the last date, when they face Saudi Arabia.
Group H positions
- Spain: 4 points
- Uruguay: 2 points
- Cape Verde: 2 points
- Saudi Arabia: 1 point
What is played on the last day
Spain will need at least a draw against Uruguay to mathematically ensure its classification while the Uruguayans will have to win so as not to depend on other results.
Cape Verde, for its part, knows that a victory against Saudi Arabia would leave it in an excellent position to dream of historic qualification to the next round in its first World Cup participation, in what promises to be a last day of maximum excitement in Group H of the 2026 World Cup.
