The Mexican team is quite excited not only for having won its first two games of the 2026 World Cup, but for having qualified directly to the round of 32 of the World Cup.
The host of the most important soccer tournament maintains the hope of advancing in this competition and, why not, reaching the long-awaited quarterfinals of the World Cup, phase that has resisted the “Tri” since 1986.
Against this backdrop, tricolor fans have shown their support for the team in different ways and one of them involves a “Child God.”
In the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City, the saint is popularly called “The Footballer Baby Jesus” and receives several Mexicans who place their faith and hope in their team.
The fans even dress the saint in the colors that the Mexican team uses in its matches: green, like in his debut against South Africa, or black, as against South Korea.
According to media such as TUDN, this tradition is not recent, since it would have originated during the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
The tradition is maintained every time Mexico hosts a World Cup, as happened in 1986 and happens now, in 2026.
Now, the Mexican team is preparing for next June 24, when it will face the Czech Republic, looking to close the group stage with a perfect score of nine points.
