Haaland’s reaction after qualifying Norway for the round of 32

Norwegian striker Erling Braut Haaland assured that he does not know how he does it, but he is very good at scoring goals, after signing “one of the best nights” of his life with a new double that classified Norway to the round of 32 of the World Cup.

“I don’t know, I think it’s my specialty to score goals. I’m just very good at it and I also have some luck,” Haaland said with a laugh in the mixed zone, after Norway’s 3-2 victory over Senegal.

With this new double, added to the one he achieved in the debut fAgainst Iraq, Haaland already has 59 goals for his team in 52 games. In addition, he has scored in 12 consecutive matches with Norway, a streak that has been maintained since November 2024.

The Norwegian team returned to play in a World Cup after a 28-year absence – since France 1998 – and, after two consecutive victories in the group stage, they have already secured their qualification for the next round.

“I think it is at the level of the most important nights I have experienced. Both the game against Iraq and today left me with very similar feelings to those of the Champions League final. It means a lot. I am very proud to be part of this,” said the Manchester City forward.

Asked about Norway’s role in the tournament, Haaland was cautious and assured that the team keeps its feet on the ground. “We are realistic. We are not thinking about winning the World Cup, but about enjoying this moment, being here and having managed to advance to the knockout rounds,” he pointed out.

The Norwegian fans have also been protagonists in the tournament. Before the game, thousands of fans took over different areas of New York with their traditional celebrations, imitating Viking oars.

“It was crazy. We saw them in Times Square and there was an incredible atmosphere. Martin (Ødegaard) and I talked about it before the game and we said that we had to join the celebration if everything went well… and it did. It was a very special moment for Norway,” Haaland said.

“Since I debuted with the national team, my goal has been to achieve something important with Norway. We are making history and I feel extremely proud to be Norwegian,” concluded the attacker.
