“Today we call on both companies to comply with their obligation, and workers, to know their rights to pay the bonus 14. This is an extraordinary remuneration different from the bonus,” said Roquel.

For her part, the Vice Minister of Labor Administration, Damarys Oliva, explained that the inspections seek to guarantee compliance with labor regulations and avoid sanctions established in the article 272 of the Guatemalan Labor Code.
The official recalled that the decree 42-92 establishes the creation of this annual bonus, popularly known as bonus 14being considered a “fourteenth salary”, while the bonus represents the thirteenth.
More than 4 thousand inspections in 2026
For this year, the Mintrab plans to carry out 4 thousand 425 inspections at the national level, which represents an increase in 630 verifications compared to the previous year.
The departments with the highest number of inspections will be Guatemala, Saint MarkQuetzaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez, while a significant deployment is also planned in Suchitepéquez and Izabal.
If a worker does not receive bonus 14 payment within the stipulated period, he or she can file a complaint. The authorities emphasize that each complaint activates a verification operation, regardless of the projected annual inspection goal.
