Rescue teams continue the search for 11 people reported missing on a hill in the municipality of Villa Canales, reported this Thursday, June 25, Víctor Gómez, spokesperson for the Volunteer Firefighters.
Gómez explained that the missing persons were reported as lost on a hill located in that municipality, so several brigades are carrying out searches in the area known as Vuelta al Lago, always in Villa Canales.
The lifeguards indicated that the work is concentrated on a hill surrounding Lake Amatitlán, at kilometer 30, where the group is presumed to remain.
Search tasks have been complicated due to the darkness of the night and the rugged terrain, conditions that make movement difficult for rescuers and reduce visibility during searches.
Until now, it is unknown what activities the people carried out on the hill before they were reported missing. It has also not been established how many men and how many women make up the group.
According to local media publications, none of the missing people have a signal on their cell phones, which has made it difficult to establish communication with them.
In addition, neighbors told local media that they heard screams coming from the mountain. According to these versions, some people asked for help because they were lost and requested that the firefighters be alerted so that they could help them find their way back.
Rescue teams continue searching the area with the aim of locating the group.
