With nothing at stake after their elimination in the first rounds of Group D, the Turkish team played with intensity and managed to surprise the group leader at SoFi Stadium.
The United States opened the scoring very early, in the 3rd minute, with a goal from Auston Trusty. However, Türkiye reacted immediately and found the tie in the 10th minute thanks to Arda Güler, who was once again the team’s offensive engine.
Before the break, Barış Alper Yılmaz made it 2-1 for the Europeans, who went into halftime with an advantage and a better feeling in the game. In the second half, the American team reacted in the 49th minute with Sebastian Berhalter’s equalizer, in a match that went back and forth until the end.
When the tie seemed final, the most dramatic outcome of the match arrived. In the 90+8 minute, Kaan Ayhan appeared in the area to score 3-2 and spark Turkish celebration on the bench and on the field.
Arda Güler was once again decisive not only for her goal, but for her constant influence in the offensive game and her ability to lead a team that, despite elimination, said goodbye with a prestigious victory.
The United States, already classified as the leader of the group, presented rotations and lowered the intensity in the final stretch of the match, which allowed the Turkish reaction.
With this result, Turkey closed its participation in Group D with a victory that allows it to leave the tournament with pride, while the North American team finished first in the group with 7 points.
