The National Civil Police (PNC) reported this Thursday, July 2, that, as a result of the investigation carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Command, Víctor “N”, 51 years old, was captured.

According to the police report, the detainee supposedly pretended to have been a kidnapping victim with the purpose of demanding Q30 thousand from his relatives for his supposed release.

The investigation was carried out following a complaint filed regarding the alleged disappearance of the man, which occurred on Wednesday morning in Tecpán Guatemala, Chimaltenango, the PNC added.

According to the investigation, the alleged kidnappers maintained communication with the family to demand ransom money.

As part of the investigative actions, specialists from the Anti-Kidnapping Command applied different techniques, investigation methods and police intelligence to locate the alleged victim at kilometer 88 of the Inter-American route, where “he was walking freely and without presenting any condition that would put his physical integrity at risk,” according to the PNC.

After his arrest, investigators seized two cell phones and a receipt related to the amount of Q30,000 corresponding to the alleged payment of the ransom.

According to the PNC, in a savings book the data of a deposit for Q28,500 was observed and Q1,782 in cash was confiscated.
