Much of this result has been achieved thanks to the Law of Preferential Interest for Access to Housing (LIP), which has allowed thousands of Guatemalan families to access financing in affordable conditions.
Through an interest rate subsidy, the LIP makes it easier for sectors that previously did not qualify, such as formal and informal sector workers, independent professionals and families receiving remittances, to make the purchase of their first home a reality.
The award was received by Juan Luis Fonseca, general manager of the entity, who highlighted that this achievement reflects the historical commitment of the institution to the development of Guatemalan families.
“Receiving this award for the third consecutive year fills us with pride and confirms that we are on the right path. Behind every financed home there is a family that fulfills the dream of having their own, decent home. We will continue to promote access to housing in every corner of Guatemala, because we know that it is one of the most transformative investments that a family can make,” said Fonseca.
The housing-oriented construction sector is one of the priorities in the granting of credit by BANRURAL, due to its direct impact on the well-being of families and the revitalization of the economy. Guatemala requires nearly 2.2 million homes to satisfy social demand, a challenge that the bank takes on with presence throughout the national territory.
The FHA 2026 Gold Award reaffirms BANRURAL’s role as a leader in the financing of social housing and as an ally of the development of Guatemala. Since its creation, the bank has maintained a mystique of proximity to communities and promoting financial inclusion, bringing opportunities to the sectors that need it most.
With this new recognition, BANRURAL reaffirms its commitment to continue opening the doors of a home of their own to more Guatemalan families, contributing to closing the country’s housing gap and building a more solid future for all.
