Alleged member of “Los Memas”, accused of fuel theft, is linked to trial and sent to prison

Judge Eduardo Orozco, of the High Risk Court B, ruled this Monday, July 6, during the hearing, that Denis Velásquez, an alleged member of a criminal structure known as “Los Memas,” faces criminal proceedings for three crimes.

According to the investigation, Velásquez was part of said criminal structure, which was dedicated to the theft of fuel tanker trucks on the highway and the illegal sale of the product at gas stations in Quetzaltenango and Huehuetenango.

Once the first statement hearing concluded, the judge ruled that the accused face criminal proceedings for illicit association, kidnapping, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery.

In addition, he gave the Public Ministry a period of three months to expand the investigation and scheduled the intermediate stage hearing for next October 16.

While that period expires, Velásquez will remain in preventive detention.

In the same judicial file, nine other people were also linked to criminal proceedings, according to judicial sources.

According to the authorities, the organization identified as “Los Memas” would have operated from Quetzaltenango, where it had its base of operations.

During the investigation into this case, the authorities have seized two heads, two DVR devices, a central processing unit (CPU) and cell phones.
