The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Wednesday in Ankara that he is terminating the ceasefire framework agreement with Iran and assured that “it is over” because Iran “is garbage.”
“For me it’s over. I don’t want to negotiate with them, because they are trash. They are sick people, led by sick, bad, violent people. If they had a nuclear weapon, they would use it,” Trump told the press, along with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, at the beginning of the second day of the Alliance leaders’ summit in Ankara.
“For me, negotiating with them is just wasting time. They lie. We agreed: there will be no nuclear weapons. They talk to the press and say that we have never talked about this. What’s wrong with them? They’re crazy,” said the US president.
“In my opinion, this is over. I think (the negotiators) are wasting their time. They (the Iranians) are a bunch of liars,” Trump concluded.
On the other hand, he accused the Iranian regime of “harming its people” and assured that “so far they have killed 54,000 people who were protesting.”
“When you ask yourself why (the protesters) haven’t taken power, it’s because they are dead. They have been killed. Nobody will take power. They don’t have rifles, and the other side has machine guns and they kill them,” he said, referring to the protests last January.
According to Trump, the United States had attacked “with great force” the night before, after guaranteeing them a period of calm for the funeral of the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who died in the first attacks of the war that began on February 28.
“We told them: have the funeral, and instead they start launching rockets at ships yesterday. So we hit them hard last night, very hard. They play dirty, they go against everyone, probably even I was on their list of people to eliminate,” the president speculated.
“They are bad people. They have killed thousands and thousands of our soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent people,” Trump said, without clarifying to which conflict he attributed the high number of American casualties at the hands of Iran, since in the war that started this year there were only 16 American soldiers killed in combat.
“Now, I’ll let our wonderful negotiators (Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner) continue talking, if they want, but I don’t see it. I don’t like those people,” he concluded.
Trump’s statements come after the most recent exchanges of hostilities between Iran and the United States.
