Representatives of the Usac-DIRE Group, made up of students, professors and graduates of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala (Usac), those who fight against the fraudulent re-election of rector Walter Mazariegos and the illegal processes that have been implemented in the house of higher education, This Friday, July 17, they filed a complaint with the Public Ministry (MP)in which they requested that the attacks and intimidation against one of its members and her family be investigated, allegedly by “net center” accounts related to Mazariegos.
At a press conference held in front of the MP headquarters, they asked Attorney General Gabriel Estuardo Luna to investigate the intimidations and acts of violence committed.against Nadyezhda Van Tuylen, professor at the Usac School of Psychological Sciences, as well as against the teacher’s mother and the attacks that have occurred through social networks attributed to “net center” networks.
According to Van Tuylen, on July 15, his mother’s car was hit by a dump truck. when he was moving down the 6th. avenue and 13th. street in the La Reformita neighborhood, zone 12 of the capital, while waiting to cross the street. According to the teacher, after the incident the driver of the truck fled the scene along with the vehicle he was driving.
Upon receiving the call from her mother, Van Tuylen commented that she immediately moved to the scene of the accident, since she teaches classes at the Metropolitan University Center (CUM), in zone 11, so she was nearby.
According to him, when he arrived at the place he found his mother and the representative of the insurance company, who was carrying out the respective procedures to determine the damage to the vehicle. The teacher indicated that, After a few minutes, a man appeared who pointed a firearm at him and, with great force, demanded that he hand over his cell phone. but not his mother and the insurance representative, who also had their phones in sight.
“There is her – the mother -, me and the man from the insurance when a guy appears, about 28 years old, more or less, dressed in black canvas pants, a white t-shirt, with a beard and black hair, who takes out a gun and puts it in my face. He shouts at me, shakes me, takes me by the shoulder and tells me to give him my cell phone. I would like to highlight that my cell phone was the only cell phone that was not visible; my mother had her cell phone in her hand, the man from the insurance company had his cell phone in his hand. hand because I was taking photos of the accident, but the only one they ask for the cell phone and the one they threaten is me,” said Van Tuylen.
As she explained, the man fired a shot into the air to intimidate her and after stealing her phone he ran to the other side of the street, towards a black sedan-type car that was waiting for him and fled the scene. lThe teacher indicated that this is extremely “suspicious” and too “exaggerated” for the theft of a cell phone.
“I would like to highlight here that the act is quite exaggerated for the theft of a cell phone, so what this makes me think, and makes us think, is that this is a directed and prepared act,” he said.
After the robbery and the events that occurred on that date, Van Tuylen assured that last Thursday, July 16, he began to be a victim of attacks on the social network in which the facts about the accident are distorted and where he is directly accused of having run over a person, who died as a result of the incident, and subsequently fleeing. She also assured that, in the publication, it was indicated that she had been captured by the National Civil Police, but that due to “her links” with the Vice Presidency and the Ministry of the Interior she had been released, which she rejected in its entirety. He also indicated that for this reason he filed the complaint with the MP so that these “net center” accounts can be investigated and the appropriate action be taken.
“The facts are tied to the institutional violence and the political persecution that I have suffered from the usurper Walter Mazariegos who is part of this criminal structure protected by the Public Ministry. Consuelo Porras left, but the inheritance stayed and leaves him—Mazariegos—as an inheritance and the netcenter network like Yes Master that takes advantage of the vulnerability of the event and my condition as a violated woman to exert even more violence and intimidate me to silence me,” said Van Tuylen.
They demand investigation
Other members of the Usac-DIRE group who accompanied the professor to file a complaint with the MP demanded that Attorney General Gabriel García Luna investigate and establish the origin of these attacks, as well as the identity of those behind these “net center” accounts. who attack the students and teachers who oppose Walter Mazariegos.
“The attorney general in recent statements stated that they had found indications that, in the Public Ministry, there was a possibility that information was leaked and that the netcenter was used even with the consent of the previous prosecutor. That is public knowledge, unfortunately we continue to see that these people who normally protect the corrupt and who are allies of Walter Mazariegos and the Higher University Council continue to use these netcenters to continue discrediting, continue lying and create anxiety and a constant threat to the decent work that is being done by recover the University of San Carlos,” said Aníbal García, lawyer and member of the Usac-DIRE group, who also accompanied the affected teacher to file a complaint with the MP.
