With black outfits dotted with cobwebs and brooches in the shape of small spiders, British actor Tom Holland and American actress Zendaya landed this Monday, July 20, in the Mexican capital to present Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Spider-Man: A New Day), the new installment of the Marvel superhero, which will premiere on July 29, 2026 in movie theaters.
“What makes Spider-Man so special is how human he is. He can be your father, your brother, your cousin, your best friend; he can be whatever you need. I think it’s his simplicity that makes the character so special,” Zendaya told EFE during the red carpet of the feature film.
The couple, who once again share scenes in the production of the saga, appeared on the Ferris wheel in Chapultepec Park, known as the “Wheel of Fortune.” Both were accompanied by the film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, known for having worked with Marvel on the film. “We are very excited to be here,” confessed the actors. The American performer, 29, added: “Presenting this film is one of the most comforting moments of my career.”
After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), in this new film Peter Parker, again played by Holland, will have the mission to recover his friends and his beloved MJ, played by Zendaya, and to protect them from danger without revealing that, in addition to being his old friend, he is also under the mask of the spider hero.
While more than a thousand attendees at the open event applauded, the cast showed a video in which they discovered that there is a neighborhood called “La Araña” in the Mexican capital.
“It’s amazing to have two nationalities,” Zendaya joked upon hearing the popular chant of “sister, you’re Mexican now,” which Holland also received.
The British actor confessed that the most difficult thing was choosing a single moment from the ten years he has been giving life to Spider-Man. Even more complicated, he said, was to point out the co-star with whom he has enjoyed the most and from whom he has learned the most during the filming of the hero’s last four films.
“Robert Downey Jr. has been a great teacher and leader for all of us who have worked in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). I have learned a lot from Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Ruffalo; they are good friends of mine,” he responded about his co-stars, who have given life to Iron Man, Hulk and Doctor Strange in other installments.
In addition, he assured that what he enjoys most about his job is learning from “titans” like Mark Ruffalo or Robert Downey Jr., although he especially highlighted the opportunity to participate in productions of this magnitude, whose budget is estimated at about US$200 million.
With this film, Holland wanted to make a delivery with a more mature character and complete risk scenes, such as jumping in free fall from a skyscraper with a miniature camera system inside the suit, pointing directly at the eye and capturing 420 frames per second.
“For me, every day is a new experience to learn from,” confessed the 30-year-old Briton.
Finally, he promised his followers that, since his debut in 2017 with Spider-Man: Homecomingthis will be the “freshest, most unique and most action-packed” film in which he has starred as the wall-crawler.
