Since its inception, the congress has been very open and important for the entire financial sector. This year we delved into topics on how artificial intelligence, the digitalization of financial services and the growth of cyber threats are redefining the future of banking around the world.
The opening of the Congress was led by Diana Velásquez, deputy manager of Banking and Financial Education at ABG; Herberth Solórzano, administrative manager of the Bank of Guatemala; and Julio César Gálvez, mayor of Strategic Administration of the Superintendency of Banks (SIB).
“Innovation is no longer an option, but a responsibility for the financial sector. CORETIC was born with a clear purpose, to be the highest level academic and technical space to carry out this technological transformation of financial systems,” said Diana Velásquez.
The academic program brought together speakers from Guatemala, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina and El Salvador, who addressed topics related to the evolution of the financial system, technological innovation, new business models and the need to strengthen the digital resilience of financial institutions.

The first day was dedicated to Financial Innovation and the future of banking, generative artificial intelligence, cross-border payments and open finance; It also had two forums: High-impact digital conferences, technological skills for the new financial era; and Banks vs. Fintech: battle or opportunity?
“Technology is useful when it makes life easier, the user improves services and strengthens security. In this context, cybersecurity requires fundamental importance. Our country and region have recently experienced cyber threats that have affected public and private institutions. Therefore, protecting systems and information is no longer a task exclusive to the technology areas; it is a responsibility that must involve authorities, technical teams, collaborators, suppliers and the users themselves,” commented Herberth Solórzano.

On the second day, one of the central axes of the congress was discussed, the analysis of the new risks associated with artificial intelligence and computer security, Cybersecurity and resilience in the quantum era. Likewise, the forum was developed: Mythos of artificial intelligence, challenges for cybersecurity.
“This event brings together the financial sector and all the productive sectors of the country, in conversations that, today, are essential in any forum, such as technology, cybersecurity and efficiency in the systems. We are betting on a genuine economic development of the country, where we are all making important contributions from our own industries, and the financial industry wants to be a fundamental part of that growth, and from that perspective, the congress addresses topics with national experts and from other countries, where the progress of technology is analyzed, how it is used and how we can take advantage of it. with elements that are also very important conversations such as cybersecurity,” commented Erhard Schafer, executive director of the Banking Association of Guatemala.

And as a grand closing, the congress was the scene of the qualifying rounds of the first INNOVATECH Hackathon, an initiative that seeks to promote the development of innovative solutions for the financial system, promoting talent and technological entrepreneurship in the region.
In a context in which cyberattacks and digital transformation are advancing at high speed, CORETIC 2026 is consolidated as a strategic platform to understand how technology is redefining banking and strengthen the response capacity of the financial sector to the challenges of the future.
With this edition, the Banking Association of Guatemala, the Banking School of Guatemala and sponsors reaffirm their commitment to the development of spaces for updating, exchange of knowledge and strengthening of capacities that contribute to the digital transformation, competitiveness and security of the national and regional financial system.
